Rose Tuffery
Rose Tuffery is a multidisciplinary creative whose artistic work includes clay sculpture, natural building and the use of recycled materials. A lifelong artist, Rose’s journey into clay began unexpectedly when she accompanied a friend to a pottery group and discovered a profound connection with the medium.
Rose’s creative expression extends beyond clay, having ventured into earth building, where she has found both physical and emotional healing. She discovered this passion while helping to construct a natural roundhouse in a remote area, an experience that aligned her wellbeing with her creative process. This sense of discovery and healing through creativity has become a core part of her identity.
“Creativity is a form of self-expression leading to a sort of more positive outlook on who you are.”
One of Rose’s most fulfilling projects has been the Pizza Palace at Waikino School, where she has collaborated with students, staff and the community to reimagine a pizza oven into a more substantial and imaginative earth-built structure. The project allowed her to embrace collaboration, a contrast to her usual isolated creative process, and reinforced her identity as an artist. Rose’s work is a testament to her belief that creativity is not just an act of making, but a journey of self-expression, healing and community building.
A multidisciplinary artist based in Waihi, she works with clay sculpture, natural building and recycled materials. For her, creativity is a powerful form of self-expression, fostering a more positive connection with oneself.
