Kath Jennings’ creative practice includes a wide array of textile and tactile arts. With a close connection to the natural materials she works with, Kath specialises in flax weaving, fibre crafts and pottery. Her passion lies in creating traditional kete (woven baskets) and sculptures from flax that she harvests and processes herself. Beyond flax work, Kath is also skilled in spinning wool, weaving and using natural dyes to produce vibrant colours. 

Kath’s work is expressed through the physical experience of crafting—she finds joy in the touchable nature of the materials and the satisfaction of turning these resources into beautiful, functional art. Her pottery practice, which she has recently begun to explore using clay sourced from her own property, is another extension of this hands-on, earth-centred approach to creativity.

For Kath, creativity is about more than just making—it’s about community and sharing knowledge. Over the past four years, she has become an enabler of creativity in her local area, founding an arts and crafts market in Mokau that provides a platform for fellow artisans to showcase and sell their work. Her recent collaborative weaving workshops with friends exemplify her commitment to fostering connections through craft, reigniting passions and bringing people together in creative exploration.
