Teuila Fatupaito
In a piece created from a large plywood board, Teuila speaks about the negative space that ignorance, intolerance and isolation creates. Hand drawn portraits of body language symbolise separation, indifference and lack of understanding about other people’s perspectives. Water and Pasifika symbols flow through Teuila’s piece, symbolising the life force that connects us as one.
Teuila is a Samoan artist, designer and jewellery maker based in Kirikiriroa. A multidisciplinary artist, Teuila draws inspiration from the small interconnected details that make up the world around her. She enjoys combining the cerebral creative process with practical problem solving, visual aesthetics and the constant evolution of learning and craftsmanship.
Teuila’s interest in art began at a young age and stemmed from the influence of her parents, Kiwi upbringing, and cultural identity.
